I was just watching the news and felt it necessary to tell you peeps about what I saw and heard...
1. So you guys may have heard of a state in India called Uttar Pradesh? Anyway, so due to riots over there, people have been relocated to relief camps. But recently, there have been several deaths here, because of bad hygiene conditions, extreme cold and malnutrition. Children are affected and many have died of pneumonia... This is heart-breaking and what's even worse is that the Chief of the ruling party there, Mulayam Singh Yadav decided that these cries of desperation and this appeal for better living conditions is unnecessary as these people are not even 'riot victims'.
In my opinion, anyone who has had to give up there homes and live in a dilapidated ruin or a tent, cramped with his or her entire family, IS a victim of riot. So I believe that this guy really needs to change his mindset and get someone out there.
"Doctor nahi, kuchh nahi. Thand se kaapte, bacche bhukhe mar rahe hein,"
(No doctors, nothing. The children shiver in the cold and are dying of hunger)
This was one of the victims... Thank heavens for television, people get to know about the plight of these people, and put pressure on the government... It's about time too... What with the elections....
2. There was a singer, can't remember his name, who preformed at an IIT recently and there was uproar about a sexist comment he made.... On watching his interview, my faith in humanity plummeted, waaaay down. This bloke's like, "God created women to be beautiful and so he created men to be intelligent."
Uh, EXCUSE ME???? He's also like "Because men are clever, there are more men in IIT's than women,"
NO. There are more men in IIT's than women because there are loads of orthodox families still present who don't believe in letting there children do exactly as they please, aka they don't allow their girl children to pursue the education they want aka they're stupid. That ain't the girl's fault. Apparently he also said something like "Are there enough pretty girls for you guys to hit on?" to the crowd, or something, but I'm not entirely sure about it... But whatever he said was enough to make me want to punch him in the face...
Anyway... enough negativity...
I'm feeling considerably happier since I have made quite a lot of progress with my studying and might even get some free time later... I've decided to tyag dalo (let go of) my Criminal Minds obsession cuz studying trumps a mindless desire to waste time and destroy eye-sight.
I'll end with an absolutely HUH-larious Superwoman video (cuz I wuv her) :)
